I Did not Expect this much
I did not expect this much from homeschooling. And no im not talking about the school work. Though writing the plan and sorting out the outcomes was a challenge at the beginning.
What I didn't expect was the strength and abilities that came from me, by stepping up as a parent and as a teacher. I forgot how smart I was academically - But more importantly my daughter was able to learn at her pace, she was able to deep dive into topics that interested her both in the school outcome requirements and outside.
People say "I could not teach my child. I'm not smart enough". To me this is a falacy. We have been conditioner to feel like we can only do things within a box and anything that I out of what Society says is norm is just not achievable.
So let me share with you a few of the positives that have occurred over the past 3 years whilst home schooling.
* I have taught my daughter to fail and get back up and try again. Failure is not a bad thing. Failure is necessary to succeed.
* How to find an answer, self learn and research. If you can't figure something out, use resources around to help teach you. My daughter and I have spent many hours online, in books and on YouTube trying to figure out how to solve equations and problems together.
*Strengthened our connection. Our continual time together has strengthened our Bond. We have learned each others fault and forgiven them time and time again. We have both learned Patience and have a very good understanding of the quote "Patience is a Virtue".
* My daughter is learning who she is and what she likes. She no longer worries about others opinions. Their opinions are there's and are not her business.
I am 43 year of age and only recently understood the others opinion concept. Understanding that they are entitled to their opinions, but its not always your business to deal with them. My daughter is ahead in maturity both emotionally and academically. She has a casual job and lots of extracurricular activities where she has made friends.
As she says to me - I don't have as many friends as school, but I have better quality friends.
If you had asked me At the beginning of this adventure "What will she be like in 3 years time?"
I would never have thought we would have come so far and both of us learned so much both academically and emotionally. That there is so much to life that we just don't think about until we take that step out of the box that Society has placed us in.
That there is so much more, than the straight path that has been placed in front of us.
